Lyrics:
Snake stick, you better run quick
Hide your likker up Lufty Creek
You been helling around, but you're gonna be found
By the forked tongue of the snake stick

Notes:
From the chapter "A Raid Into the Sugerlands." Kephart accompanies the Snakestick Man (W.W. Thomason) into the notorious moonshining region of Tennessee known locally as the Sugarlands. The song assumes the chase of three blockaders who are Old Man Ruff and his sons Buck and Jake. The refrain comes from Kephart's description of one of the snake-sticks that Mr.Quick has carved: On one he has a monkey chasing a lizard up the snake's tail and stabbing at it with a devil's trident. After the chase turns fruitless and more arduous than expected, Kephart kids Mr.Quick, "yes, there's no finer sport than hunting man.".
